Elcometer 7000 digital moisture meters

CT_EL_GB_G7000XX | Elcometer

The Elcometer 7000 range of moisture meters are accurate and easy to use.

Available in two versions, the Concrete Moisture Meter has a non-invasive probe that emits a radio frequency that penetrates the surface to detect the presence of moisture. Ideal for rapid inspection of solid walls, floors and tiles.

The digital moisture meter is equipped with a two-pin probe; pressed against the surface, it takes a measurement of the near zone. It also has a non-invasive probe on the back of the instrument for detecting moisture.

  • Calibrated, ready to use
  • Instant readings on clear, easy-to-read scale
  • Portable, battery-operated, non-destructive instrument

Types of moisture meter

It is useful to measure the moisture content of porous materials such as concrete, plaster, brick or wood, as the presence of moisture can lead to poor adhesion, premature damage and poor appearance.
appearance.

It is not enough to ensure that the surface is dry, as this is often the driest place - due to evaporation. It is important to measure the moisture content of the substrate itself.

In the case of powder-coated wood panels, for example, if the wood (or mdf) has too high a moisture content, this is converted into vapour by the heat of the oven - a cause of major defects in the finish.

Applying a coating to a concrete floor that is too damp can cause premature adhesion defects. Moisture meters are designed to specifically determine the moisture content of a substrate. There are two types:

Spike moisture meters: spikes are driven into the surface of the substrate to be tested, then, by measuring the electrical resistance between the spiked electrodes, the percentage of moisture (%MC) contained in the substrate is determined.

Contact moisture meters without tips: although moisture meters without tips generally measure moisture levels more quickly and non-destructively, they require a relatively flat surface. This is because the sensors are mounted on the base of the instrument, making them suitable for concrete.
