Gammagraphes, SENTINEL™, ELITE 880

GR_QS_US_880ELITE | QSA Global

In challenging and sometimes remote industrial environments, gamma radiography is valued for its simplicity and reliability. SENTINEL™ series 880 gamma ray source projectors consistently deliver under all conditions.

Experience extreme durability, simple operation, and low operator dose.

With over 12,000 units in service worldwide, from the northern reaches of Alaska to the harsh desert environments of the Middle East, the SENTINEL series 880 unit boasts nearly two decades of proven reliability and durability, providing the longest equipment life for maximum production for your clients.

The versatility of using Ir-192, Se-75, and Yb-169 radioisotope sources maximizes non-destructive testing applications where you can utilize your SENTINEL series 880 projector, while advanced safety features minimize operator dose.

Designed, tested, and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ANSI N432-1980, ISO 3999:2004(E), IAEA TS-R-1 (2009), IAEA SSR-6 (2012), USNRC 10CFR34, USNRC 10CFR71, and USDOT 49CFR173 standards.

Model 880 series projection devices are used for industrial gamma radiography applications, primarily with Ir-192, to inspect structures and materials with densities ranging from approximately 2.71 g/cm³ to 8.53 g/cm³.

Model 880 units also accommodate low-energy isotopes, enabling radiography of thin steel structures and low-density alloy materials.

Model 880 units are also designed for use with low-activity sources with high photon energies used for massive absorption studies of high-density materials up to 18.7 g/cm³.

Construction

A Depleted Uranium (DU) shield is enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel casing closed at the ends by welded stainless steel discs. The interior void is filled with rigid polyurethane foam. The body of the projection device is encased in a plastic jacket including the carrying handle and base.

Materials

Titanium 'S' tube, DU shielding, cylindrical case and disc in 300 stainless steel, aluminium, brass, tungsten and polyurethane.

Inspection requirements

Daily pre-operational inspection to detect obvious damage to the system.

Maintenance requirements

Most national regulations require the system to be inspected and serviced at quarterly intervals. Full annual servicing ensures the integrity of the system. More frequent inspection and maintenance is required when the system is used in more severe operating environments. In some cases, the system must be serviced immediately after being used in severe working conditions.

Source holder cable

The 'Source Cable' consists of a short, flexible steel cable with a female connector at the other end used for connection to the remote control cable. The female connector also includes a spring and a crimped stainless steel stop ball (older versions of the source cable had the stop ball separate from the female connector). The stop ball mechanically secures the positioning of the 'Source Cable' within the locking mechanism and inside the radiography device
